ASE Citadel ComCenter-II Integrates Voice, SSAS, LRIT

Piracy threat not only returned to African waters  but as per ReCAAP ISC’ 2017 Annual Report increased by 19% against ships in Asia. Marisatcom, with hands-on experience, protects ships, ship citadel and delivers the only customised anti piracy technology, ASE Citadel ComCenter II integrates Voice, SSAS, LRIT.
According to the International Chamber of Shipping the shipping industry carries around 90% of world trade. Thus the shipping industry is the backbone of the world’s economy. Yet it faces very big threats, like cyber-attacks and the return to piracy. Piracy and armed robbery incidents reported to IMB Piracy Reporting Centre during 2018 are depicted live within ICC Commercial Crime Services.

Ship Security Alert System (SSAS)

The ship security alert system (ssas) strengthens maritime security via a standalone onboard system which sends alert messages to maritime rescue departments.
One of the system’s main drawback is not only that it is an isolated emergency text communications system,  that it is located at the ship’s bridge, not in the ship citadel. Therefore becomes the number one destroy priority, along with other sub-systems located on the bridge, when pirates get onboard the ship.
ssas has no voice ability.

Long Range Tracking and Identification System (LRIT)

The lrit equipment is a tracking and identification system was introduced by IMO under SOLAS. It is another standalone bridge system, related to national security, that sends ship’s identity and its location information.
Like ssas, lrit is another isolated emergency text communications system,  located at the ship’s bridge, not in the ship citadel. Becoming also the number one destroy priority, along with other sub-systems located on the bridge, when pirates get onboard the ship.
lrit has no voice ability.

Before Entering HRAs

Maritime professionals working on ships with their vessel s about to enter a High Risk Area (HRA) have to get well prepared before their vessels enter a piracy area.
One of the check-points/steps is to make sure they have a safe and well-prepared ship citadel room, with always-on communications while inside their citadel room.
This however means there is no access at all to ship’s independent bridge systems mentioned above, such as the ssas and lrit.

Vessel’s AIS Gets Switched Off

On top, while maritime professionals are locked up in their citadel room, it’s been experienced in many reported cases worldwide by them that during piracy attacks they are switching off their vessel’s AIS. Because pirates while on their mother ships get vessel’s info from AIS fitted on mother ships.
